Parents of Adult Children

with Herpes

Since my time working with women coping with Herpes, I have gotten a lot of emails and phone calls from parents of adult children with Herpes and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). I realized that there is a huge gap in support for parents coping with their child being diagnosed with Herpes and other STDs. I’ve got you.

First of all, so many young adults do not have a relationship with their parents that is trusting or supportive enough to disclose Herpes or another STD. So, please, pat yourself on the back for cultivating that kind of relationship with your child. It is so important for how they cope with this devastating diagnosis.

First of all, a lot of STDs are treatable and curable. Herpes, HIV, and HPV do not have a cure. There are medications and procedures that help prevent outbreaks of Herpes, and most people clear HPV from their bodies after a couple of years. Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Syphilis are treatable with medications, especially when caught early.

I know your child getting diagnosed with anything, especially an STD, can be challenging for a parent too. You did your best to prepare them for the world that they are entering of dating, sex, and relationships. Maybe you taught them ad nauseum about how to protect themselves from getting an STD, however, maybe they weren’t careful or they were careful and got an STD anyway. I am a parent, too. I know how hard it can be to watch your child suffer with a new problem, especially if it could have been prevented.

I work with parents, too. I offer an opportunity to work with me once or for a few sessions. You choose. In one session you will learn:

  • How to support your adult child through a new diagnosis

  • How to take care of yourself while supporting your child

In a few sessions you will learn the above and:

  • How to move forward in supporting your child, when to get involved and when to step back.

  • How to strengthen or repair your relationship with your adult child, even if you didn’t respond the way you or your child wanted you to.

  • Tools to continue to develop a healthy relationship with your child

Please note: I am a therapist, but this is NOT therapy. We are looking forward in an action oriented fashion.

Ok, so what is this going to cost you?

Each 50 minute session is $300. One session is $300 and a package of 3 sessions is $1100 ($100 discount). I can meet with you during the weekdays between the hours of 9am-3pm EST. Availability depends on the week and my schedule. Contact me for further info.
